Cotton Swab Painting

Invite your preschoolers to use cotton swabs to create art. Painting with cotton swabs is fun and also great for fine motor development.
This is a process art invitation and simple to set up. Simply provide something to paint on, cotton swabs, and paint!

Consider supplying white school glue so children can glue the cotton swabs on the paper as well!

Self Portrait

Have the child make a self portrait. Compare from beginning to end of the year, or try a monthly self portrait.

Musical Emotions

Play various types of music, the children can dance, sing. Take a moment to ask the children to describe the type of emotions they felt after hearing the music ​

Foil Mirrors

Create a mirror. Cut out mirror shape from cardboard. Attach Oval Foil Mirror to cardboard with glue and decorate with stickers or jewels. ​

Hand print and Fingerprint Process Art

Students create their own personalized process art piece by stamping their hands and fingers. ​

Personalized Grass Head

Take a zoomed in photo of your student (if possible avoid photographing the top of their hair-bangs are ok). Cut the top of the image flat. Laminate for extra durability. Attach the image onto a plastic cup using double sided tape, add holes for drainage. Place a second cup on the outside to protect the image, and to allow room for drainage. Fill with potting soil and grass seeds. Have your student take care of their grass by watering it, clipping the "hair". Keep it in a sunny spot, ​and drain often.

My Name Collage

This theme is a fun time to celebrate every child's favorite word. their name!
Set out a variety of options for cutting out letters such as magazines, card stock, stickers, sand paper. the more the better!
Children can create their name using the materials and then hang on their bedroom door or cubby.

All About Me Book

Invite children to create a book all about themselves!
For each book you will need a piece of colored paper and several sheets of white paper, fold them all in half with the colored paper on the outside of the fold, then staple at the folded edge to hold them together. Alternatively you can purchase blank books.
For this book children can use a combination of drawings and photos.
Encourage children to write about their favorite toys, people in their family, favorite colors, foods, friends, and activities.
Include a space for children to write their name (even if they are in the scribbling stage) for reference at the end of the year. Children not yet writing can dictate to an adult to add descriptions to the images.
During group time invite children to share a few pages from their book.

Build Your Name with Magnet Letters

Have the child use magnetic letters to build their name,
you can differentiate by providing a letter name strip if needed or our Free Bubble Name Practice activity. ​
